SPIIOW, the Island’s Suicide Prevention & Intervention charity has been awarded over £2,500 from customer members who have used the Co-op store in Shanklin’s Landguard Road. Everytime a customer member buys selected Co-op products and services, 2p for every £1 is given to support community organisations and local causes, with 1% going to the Co-op community partnerships fund and 1% to local community groups. Customer members can choose their local cause to support through their membership.
Jodie Blaize – Trustee Said:
This donation of £2, 903.07 has come at a time when SPIIOW are just about to purchase more PPE equipment for our front line responders, some of whom have, in the past few months completed more training to enable them to undertake their roles in the community. Most often or not our teams are some of the first professional trained personnel to a location and we require the correct equipment for our team members for them to carry out their roles.
Congratulations to the other successful groups who also benefitted from this, including Ventnor Carnival Association, Ventnor Enhancement Fund, St Catherine’s School, Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary and Daisy Chains IW Children’s Charity – well done to you all.
Simon Thompson – Store Manager said:
We’re a business with a difference, owned by our members and other Co-ops and not Big investors. We put helping our communities at the centre of everything we do.
We’re celebrating the difference our members make. Together, we’ve raised £100m to support local communities across the UK.
And we’re not stopping there. We want to continue to build stronger and more resilient communities by offering:
- Fair access to food
- Fair access to mental wellbeing support
- Fair access to education and employment for young people
This year we’ve supported 25,000 local causes and we’ll continue to support thousands more through the Local Community Fund, where members can select which cause in their local community to support. And through the new Community Partnerships Fund creating lasting change on big issues we care about, targeting communities that need the extra help the most.
