World Suicide Prevention Day 2019: Island Community Reflection & Awareness

Marking World Suicide Prevention Day with community reflection, educational outreach, and breaking the stigma around reaching out for support across the Isle of Wight.

Historical Archive Notice

This article is an archival record published for public interest, historical transparency, and community education. The former SPIIOW organisation is no longer actively operational.

World Suicide Prevention Day is observed globally on 10 September each year. In 2019, SPIIOW joined community groups, healthcare professionals, and Island residents to highlight the fundamental message that suicide is preventable and that open, honest conversations save lives.

Historically, the event provided an opportunity to share awareness materials across the Isle of Wight, highlighting key helpline numbers and reminding people that seeking help is a sign of strength.

Suicide prevention remains an active, continuous community effort. Today, verified national and local Isle of Wight services—including the NHS 111 Mental Health option, the Samaritans (116 123), and the Shout Crisis Text Line (85258)—continue to provide confidential, around-the-clock crisis support.
