Launched in November is an Isle of Wight organisation called Suicide Prevention & Intervention IOW also known as SPIIOW. SPIIOW is an independent organisation specialising in Suicide Prevention (awareness), Intervention*, Training & Education. One of the main aims of the organisation is to seek and save lives across the Isle of Wight from suicide.
Suicide is the leading cause of young deaths across the UK, we strongly believe that many young suicides can be prevented if we make it all of our business to get involved and make our Island a suicide safer community.
Sarah Adams – who’s role is Admin Support tells us We know that there is a lot of stigma and taboo attached to suicide, thus being one of the main reasons why people of all ages don’t talk about it, they feel they don’t want to be judged –this seems wrong to us so our aim is also to break this down and for people to talk openly about it and the way they are feeling.
We are proactive in delivering suicide awareness training across the Island in sessions we hold or we can come to your work place to deliver them to your staff to play your part in making your work place and the Island suicide safer.
SafeTALK Suicide Alertness for Everyone – is a half-day course (3.5 hours) that can help you make a difference. Learn to identify people with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. This training prepares you to be a suicide alert helper in order to connect people having thoughts of suicide with more specialised support.
Our next Suicide Prevention (awareness) course is on Monday 14th January 2019 for more information please see our website www.spiiow.org
We need your support – to support others.
We are seeking to raise funds to help buy equipment if you can help please email us at hello@spiiow.org or go to our support page on our website
